EVOC consist of the successful completion of 8 hours of classroom instruction and 8 hours of student skills along with the successful completion of one written examination and practical skills.  Vehicle Operator's Course certification 1, 2 and 3 can be obtained with successful completion of the course.

Prerequisites: Student must be 18 years of age on the first day of class, have a valid, unrestricted operator's license, be affiliated with an emergency services organization or have the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles assigned give written approval from their sponsoring agency that is signed by an authorized agent for the class.  Recertification requires a current card and attendance on Day 1, from 1300 - 1800.

Introduction to Technical Rescue Module II

Module II is a 24 hours introductory classroom and practical course addressing the job performance requirements of NFPA 1006.  This course will require basic rescue skills in the low and high angle environments to include: site operations, establishment of landing zones for helicopter operations, victim management and rope, knots and anchoring systems. This course is designed for personnel who will actually serve on or in support of a technical rescue incident. Students will receive a VDFP Certificate of Attendance.

Prerequisites: Student must be 18 years of age on the first day of class. Student must be a member in good standing with a recognized fire, EMS or public safety agency/department to apply. Student shall be psychologically, physically, and medically capable to perform assigned duties and function at technical search and rescue incidents, are able to perform training exercises in accordance with NFPA 1500 Standard on Fire Department Occupational Safety and Health Programs: Chapter 10 - Medical and Physical Requirements, completion of VDFP recognized Hazardous Material Operations course and completion of Module I prior to registration of class.

Required student materials, equipment and uniforms: PPE to include NFPA rated fire helmet or NFPA or ANSI rated technical rescue helmet, boots with adequate ankle protection, gloves (structural firefighting gloves NOT suitable for this class), eye protection and long pants (no loose fitting clothing that may get tangled in rope hardware).  Any long hair must be able to be secured in helmet or clothes.

Basic Pump Operations

The Virginia Department of Fire Programs Basic Pump Operations training program consists of 4 hours of classroom instruction and 12 hours of practical evolutions.

Prerequisites: Student must have EVOC Class 3 and helmet, gloves and boots at a minimum.  Full turn-outs will be at the discretion of the instructor.
