Zoning Office
The Zoning Office is responsible for performing zoning approvals and inspections, reviewing all county business license applications for compliance with zoning regulations, processing applications for variance, rezoning, and special use requests, processing zoning appeal applications, and enforcing the zoning and subdivision ordinances.
No building, structure, land or parts thereof shall be used or occupied, erected, constructed or assembled, moved, enlarged or structurally altered unless in conformity with the provisions of the Zoning Ordinance.

Construction that Requires a Zoning Permit
- Small pre-built and stick built storage buildings
- New homes, modular homes, manufactured homes and additions
- Porches and decks
- Barns and windmills
- Towers
- Signs
- In-ground pools
- Above ground pools left up year-round
Information Needed to Make an Application for a Zoning Permit
- Stake and flag the property lines and the proposed structure
- Attach a survey plat (if available) or a hand drawn sketch
- A copy of the deed for any new building/structure
- An approved Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) entrance permit, if applicable
- Tax map number (can be found on your real estate tax bill)
